Have you ever felt hurt by love?
Love is by far one of the most exciting, fun, scary, and confusing things we deal with. Having about a million different definitions, sometimes it’s hard for us to determine exactly what love is, how we show it, who we show it too, and what it should look like.
I think all of us can relate in saying we’ve felt hurt or heartbroken by someone we love in the past. But in saying this, when I think over the one love that will never hurt us or never left us with a broken heart, that’s the love of Jesus and the beautiful thing is we all have that love of Jesus.
No matter the hurt, heartbreak, or confusion we may be going through because of someone we love hurting us, we will ALWAYS have the love of Jesus to pick us up and care for our hearts.
Below, my friend Kaston is sharing some of her heart today. Kaston & I have been friends since childhood and have walked through years of life beside each other as we both navigated love & hurt & so much more.
Today I’m so excited for you all to read as she shares about real love, finding the love of Jesus, prioritizing Jesus, and searching for more.
“He heals the brokenhearted and binds up their wounds.”
This verse was my mantra on more than one occasion.
Has a guy ever broken your heart? Made you feel worthless? Have you gotten to the point where life almost wasn’t worth living anymore because the person you thought you were going to spend the rest of your life with stopped choosing you and left you with nothing? I felt this way.
Except I wasn’t left with nothing. I was left with a new beginning.
Jesus Christ was the only thing that got me through my darkest days. I was foolish to let my life’s purpose revolve around another human being instead of my heavenly father. It would be easy to blame my hurt and heartache on the guys I used to date, but in a way I broke my own heart. I wasn’t making Christ a priority in my relationships.
The first guy I dated had just started learning about scripture and hadn’t accepted Christ as his savior. The second guy I dated grew up in church and had lived a life knowing what the Bible said, but wasn’t willing to completely let Christ take over as the center of his life. For some reason I thought that was a strong enough foundation to build a relationship on. I learned the hard way that it’s so much more than that.
Christ should be woven into every second of our every day. If you’re single I encourage you to wait until God presents you with a guy that is determined in his pursuit of the Lord. If you’re currently dating I pray that you examine the relationship you are in. Are you encouraging each other to stay pure and faithful in your walk with Christ? Ask yourself if this relationship is pleasing to Christ, or if it is just pleasing to you.
“Have mercy upon me, O God, According to Your lovingkindness; According to the multitude of Your tender mercies, Blot out my transgression. Wash me thoroughly from my iniquity, and cleanse me from my sin.”
Sin has a way of creeping into our lives when we choose to listen to our fleshly desires. I don’t want any of my fellow sisters in Christ to make the same mistakes I’ve made. But if you have, it’s not too late. Christ loves us and forgives us when we turn to Him and redirect our lives. This life isn’t mine and it isn’t yours. It is Christ’s to use us in whatever way He wants and He can’t do that if we aren’t living for Him.
I don’t regret my past relationships because they got me to where I am today. I’m single, but I’m not lonely. My savior will never leave me nor forsake me (Hebrews 13:5). I urge you to focus solely on pursuing a more intimate relationship with Christ and you will find joy and purpose everywhere you look and in everything you do. My life was full of sin and pain, but Christ restored my soul and over time He put the pieces of my heart back together again.
“Yes I have loved you with an everlasting love; Therefore with lovingkindness I have drawn you.”
No matter what you are facing, heartbroken or not, I want you to realize how valuable and loved you are by your Father in heaven.
